"Kami"
Hello my name is Kami. I am from Sari in
northern Iran near the
Caspian Sea. I came to Japan in 1991. My friend and I run a
restaurant
in downtown Osaka named Hafez. 'Hafez' does
Persian food. 'Persia' is
the old name for Iran.
Iran is in the Middle East, between Iraq, Turkey, Afghanistan,
and Pakistan. Most people in Iran are Muslim, but I am not interested
in religion. If you want to be a good person, you should do it for
yourself, not because someone tells you to.
After I graduated high school, I became a professional
soccer player but I had to quit soccer because I hurt my knee. After
that I had to join the army. In Iran, everybody who isn't a student
must join the Army after they are 18. If you don't join the Army, you
can't go to University or get a good job.
When I was in the Army, Iran had a
war with Iraq. I had to fight
in it. I was in the war for two years. It was terrible. During the war,
and after the war finished, I never hated the people from Iraq.
They were just soldiers like me. They had to do what the government had
told them to. Why do governments make people do such terrible things? I
don't know. It's crazy.
War is the most terrible thing that can happen to any person. I
still have nightmares from the war. I hope you never see one.
After the war I went to University and studied English.
But before I finished, I decided to come to Japan and work and save
some money for my future. But then, here in Osaka, I met my wife and I
fell in love. I decided to stay in Japan, because once I met my wife, I
knew that fate had brought me here.
I think everybody should just follow their fate and let their
destiny guide them. There are many wonderful things in the world, and
if
you see a chance, you should take it. You don't have to think so
seriously about everything. Just enjoy your life!
And one more thing. There are so many things in this world for
us to learn, so let's not waste our time!
