New Zealand is one of the most beautiful countries in the
world. The nature, plants and animals are very special because it is an
island. There are no predators or even mosquitoes so it it very safe
for camping. There are sheep everywhere! (There are more sheep than
people!)
It used to be a British colony, but before that only the Maoris
lived there. The Maoris are very proud of their culture and many of the
cities have Maori names.
I went there a few years ago and took my bicycle. I got a
terrible sunburn. Many people told me it was because of the hole in the
ozone layer, but I didn't know about it before I went. It was a really
bad sunburn! We must stop the hole in the ozone layer!
Today we will read a text from one of the Cocoro DJs named Alec.
He talks about the Maori culture. He says that people respect the Maori
culture in New Zealand, but he is worried that people in Japan don't
respect Japanese culture. Japanese people are forgetting their own
roots! He also hates the way some people in Japan pretend that a
problem doesn't exist. We need to communicate and talk about problems!
He likes Japan and wants Japan to be Japan!
There are 2 quizzes on quizlab about Alec's text. Look at the
Cocoro book and do the quizzes.
