Hello.Kamusta po kayo? My name is Osti Wade. I am from the
province of Laguna in the Philippines. The town of Calamba, which is
now a city is where I was born and so was the Philippine National hero,
Dr. Jose Rizal. I am married to Joe Wade, from England. I am a resident
here in Japan having lived here for a long time working as Legal
Translator and Interpreter at the district courts around Kansai and as
an English teacher.
I love sports such as golf and skiing but I am neither a good
golfer nor a good skier.
At the moment, I am very busy doing so many different things like
helping my husband with his work producing big and small events here in
Osaka.
In my free time, I am involved in an volunteer organization
promoting peace, the environment and human rights. It is called Hand in
Hand. Many people from the Osaka City Government are members. We help
the JFC (Japanese-Filipino Children). They are children born from
Japanese fathers and Filipino mothers. There are many children both in
Japan and in the Philippines from parents like this but not all of them
are fortunate enough to have good lives. Some of them have been totally
abandoned and not recognized by their fathers, or even the government.
We sometimes help them look for their fathers and sometimes just help
them to be aware of the culture language and people of Japan.
Sometimes it is impossible to solve their problems because the
situation is very complicated, but often there is a happy reunion when
the children meet their fathers. There are at least 30.000
Japanese-Filipino children living in the Philippines.
Being a volunteer is a wonderful thing. You can never realize
how happy you can make somebody with just a little effort. It also
makes you
feel good! I hope someday you will join a volunteer group too,
but for now, just smile and make the world happy!
